 My Life…

A journey through adventure, discovery and challenge…

“I'm not sure if Americans have heard of him. He lost his leg to cancer when he was a teenager. While going through "kemo" he was hurt by the amount of suffering in the cancer ward of his hospital and decided that "somewhere the hurting must stop". He decided to run across Canada to raise funds for Cancer research here in Canada. Halfway across, outside Thunder Bay Ontario, cancer spread to his lungs ... a few months later he died. He lifted a nation through his courage and tenacity and to this day, the first weekend in September is the Terry Fox run. There is a mountain named after him in the Canadian Rockies a huge memorial to him outside Thunder Bay. His run across Canada was the "Marathon of Hope" and enclosed is a famous image of him running into the evening. Keep in mind he did 28-30 miles per day on one leg and artificial leg.”   Andy…British Colombia, Canada

Directions:

After reflecting on the Adventure, Challenge & Discovery activities in this block, complete a personal history timeline that charts SEVEN to TEN significant events in your life.  Your selected events should reflect adventure, challenge and discovery.  In order to receive academic credit and the highest possible grade, your timeline must be:

q       Completed as a poster (poster board will be provided).

q       Creative, original and neat.

q       Include specific dates and events.

q       Include a brief written explanation for the event. You will also need to include a visual that reflects your chosen event.

You will have ONE full 90 minute integrated block to work on your poster.  Please think about items such as pictures, cut-outs, etc. that you would like to include on your poster.  You will need to bring these items to school the next day.

During the following 90minute integrated block, you will briefly explain your poster to the class.

Work hard and make sure you do your best work!  If you need assistance or have questions, please ask…

Good Luck…
