Students volunteer services for
Food Share fundraiser
Twenty-four Community Schoolhouse students volunteered their services to help staff this year's Copper Mountain Trust Chefs' Nite Out on Sunday, October 6th, at Willamette Valley Vineyards.
The fourth annual fundraiser for Marion-Polk Food Share brought together the region's finest restaurants and wineries along with businesses in the community all in a collective effort to provide food for families who are hungry and need help. The event was the best ever, raising more than $40,000.
Lori Bowman, event coordinator, reported that the Community Schoolhouse students performed above and beyond the call of duty to help make the event a success. She shared that the students received high praise from Gary Peutz, a Portland seafood steward with McCormick and Schmidt, who participates in a variety of these types of events. Peutz said the students were some of the best high school helpers he has ever worked with.
Community Schoolhouse student volunteers for Chefs' Nite Out included: Alison Pascal, Becca Kauss, Bryan Riester, Chris Daniels, Ciarra Lara, Circe Barraza, Claudia Rodriguez, Cole Henderson, Dan Leon, Erica Leon, Gus Camarena, Jason Batz, Jennifer Shrauger, Jennifer Villanueva, Jesse Featherstone, Jordan Clark, Katelin Williamson, Laney Stephens, Melina Martinez, Rhoie Stewart, Roxanna Morgan, Scott Cripps, Sunshine Zepeda and Valerie Bridwell. Marion-Polk Food Share, a non-profit charity, annually collects 2.5 million pounds of food to distribute through a network of over 50 member food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other programs for low-income people. Together, those charities give out more than 35,000 emergency food boxes and serve over 410,000 meals per year. |
