Heather has been a teacher in public and private schools
(grades k-12) for 18 years. She has
taught health and wellness, physical education, service psychology and sociology
during her career. In addition to
her classroom teaching, Heather coached both boys and girls basketball during
her first 10 years of teaching. Heather is a specialist in service learning and coordinated
Whiteaker Middle School’s program during her tenure there.
This program came about as the result of Whiteaker receiving a Learn and
Serve America grant written by Heather and her co-workers.
She has presented her service learning expertise at conferences for
Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, the Confederation of Oregon School
Administrators and OAPHRD, and also trained other Oregon schools in the art and
practice of establishing a service learning program. Heather has mentored student teachers from Oregon State University and Western Oregon University for the past 10 years. She has her Master’s degree in Education. |
