Wall of Justice

The "Wall of Justice" is a product of the Brave New You winter term integrated project. Teams of six students chose a case study reflecting the teaching of tolerance and respect for cultural diversity. After researching the historical background, causes and effects of intolerance or injustice, and the outcomes that taught tolerance and respect for cultural diversity, each team designed a mural to artistically reflect and symbolize the key lessons of the case study. Case studies included:

Cesar Chavez
Jackie Robinson

Martin Luther King

Thurgood Marshall

Rosa Parks

Matthew Shepard

The Chicano Moratorium

The Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo

Hate Crime Legislation

The Great Reformers (Gandhi, Lincoln, and M.L. King)

Bob Marley

The Grape Boycott and the United Farmworkers

Malcolm X

Ruben Hurricane Carter

Refugees Fleeing to America

A group of community members then judged the mural sections on their professionalism, artistic reflection of the case study, insight and creativity. The winners were:

1st Place: "Bob Marley" led by Jon Martin

2nd Place: "The Three Reformers" led by Alison Pascal

3rd Place (tie): "Ruben ‘Hurricane’ Carter" led by Korey Arnold

and

"Thurgood Marshall" led by Mary Velasquez and Jesse Featherstone

Honorable Mentions:

"Matthew Shepard" led by Chris Madden

"Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo" led by Justin Miller and Tim Medyanikov

"Martin Luther King" led by Andrew Chastain and Chris Ong
