A Brave New World Project Letter to Parents November 13, 2000 Dear Parents: Last week, you received your son/daughter’s progress report. The report indicates if your child is progressing toward meeting graduation requirements, as well as the standards established for Oregon’s CIM (Certificate of Initial Mastery). As we are quickly approaching the end of the first term at The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse, we would like to provide you with important dates and information that will significantly impact your child’s academic progress and performance level at the school. Missing/Revised Work for Term # 1 The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse expects students to turn work in on time and to meet deadlines. However, teaching staff understand there are circumstances that can result in students missing assignments. Staff also encourages students to revise completed assignments so they can meet state standards and (or) earn a higher score. For Term # 1, the absolute last day to turn in late or revised work is Monday, November 27, 2000. Students that do not turn in missing assignments or revise work so that it meets the school’s acceptability standards jeopardize their opportunity to earn their CIM as well as earn the academic credit required for a Salem-Keizer high school diploma. School-wide Term Project:A Brave New WorldAttached you will find a copy of the school-wide term project that each student will be working on from November 20-December 6, 2000. The project serves as a performance task that requires students to integrate knowledge and information acquired in their classes during the first term. The project integrates several subject areas and will be evaluated and assessed by teachers from each of your child’s classes. This project will earn up to 25% of your child’s grade in each of their academic blocks. Please review the project and timeline with your son/daughter. Staff encourages you to discuss and interact with your child as they complete their work. Parental guidance, support and monitoring on projects and major assignments are often the key factors that result in success. If you have specific questions regarding your child’s progress, academic performance or behavior, please feel free to contact their Learning Team teacher. You may also access copies of key assignments at the integrated teaching team web page at: http://www.communityschoolhouse.org/integrated_teaching_teams.htm If you have any other questions, feel free to contact one of us. Sincerely, Andrew Goldstein & Molly
