MISSION STATEMENT

Through community partnerships, The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse alternative public charter school shall provide students with multiple opportunities to gain knowledge, apply skills, and demonstrate citizen responsibility in order to be positive, knowledgeable and productive members of their local and global communities.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

The primary goal of The Community Schoolhouse is to provide an educational setting tailored to the special needs of students who, for whatever reason, are disconnected from the traditional school environment. This setting will allow students to obtain a meaningful education, establish short-term and long-term life goals, and develop the academic and social tools required to live a healthy and productive life in the 21st century.

The objectives of The Community Schoolhouse are:

  • to provide a flexible thematic curricula utilizing subject integration, contextual learning, global collaboration, and the application of technology as a means to attain Oregon's Certificate of Initial Mastery and pursue Certificate of Advanced Mastery strand goals;

  • to better meet student academic needs and interests by providing multiple opportunities to achieve high standards that ensure continuous improvement;

  • to build stronger working relationships between parents, students and educators;

  • to involve the community in the lives of the students and the students in the life of the community;

  • to provide opportunities in small learning environments with a flexible schedule, thus removing many of the learning barriers that hinder or prevent success;

  • to provide basic bilingual skills for English as a Second Language and English speaking students;

  • to improve student reading skills to promote high literacy rates;

  • to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive school atmosphere that addresses alternative learning styles; and

  • to disseminate models of teaching practices and program implementation that can be replicated districtwide and statewide, as well as on the national and international levels.
