Parent Testimonials

"The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse meets the needs of my 15-year-old son more effectively than any conventional school environment ever did.  The extraordinary teaching staff, stimulating atmosphere, and projects that relate to today's world contribute to strengthening his desire to excel, and his resulting success has enhanced his self-esteem, as well.  None of this would have been possible without the consistent dedication of the school founders and administration.  I am so grateful to them for being what my son describes as 'partners in learning.'"

There simply aren’t words to thank you enough for all you have done. You have re-ignited the fire in (our son) and I’m sure he’s not the only one. Thank you for realizing that education is not just textbooks and chapter questions. These past months have been a wonderful celebration and awakening that it is really possible to do the right thing for our kids.

"A thousand thank-yous! For the first time ever, our daughter announced she had a great day at school. She likes the kids and thinks the teachers are great! Last year, all she talked about was how she wanted to drop out, but now she talks about going to college. The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse has made the difference."

"When the 1999-2000 school year ended, dropping out was a very real consideration for our son. We have watched a transformation of our son in regards to school. When asked, 'how is school,' he responds, 'I love it! It is great!' His overall life is much better today that it was before. Your vision of a 'new school' is truly a blessing."

"After putting two children through a different high school, The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse has been like a breath of fresh air to us.  It's the best thing we've seen yet out of a public school system!  What we, as parents, appreciate most is the way the staff encourages the children to discover their own individuality and respect others as well – done with a good balance of positive reinforcement and discipline.  Our daughter has nothing but good things to say about the school and its teachers – and so do we!"

"The reality for us is that our child would not be in school if it weren’t for the Schoolhouse. We also feel he is getting an education in the things that are important to us...working with others, being part of the larger community and preparing him to join the workforce. He’s also getting the academics and we see improvements all the time.

"I’m sure the assessments give you valuable information. But, don’t lose sight of what’s really important about what you are doing, and for us, doing well. That is, preparing the kids to be responsible adults and good citizens."

“I am so happy my daughter is going to the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse. She has done a complete 180 degree turnaround.  Keep up the good work!

"The Community Schoolhouse has been the right place for our son at this stage of his education.  He has rediscovered that learning can be a satisfying experience, and we believe the integrated curriculum and exceptional, caring staff are responsible.  The richness of the school environment, from Web page design, to tutoring in Organic Chemistry, to mentoring on Fridays with an oncologist – while advancing his other basic subjects – truly is unique in Salem.  We are grateful that he has had this opportunity."

“It’s neat because this is the first time in years that (my daughter) has been excited about school and wanted to do well in it.”

“We truly want to thank you for providing the opportunity for our son to attend the school.  I say 'the' rather than 'your', as he already feels strongly that it is his school. The school is providing a positive opportunity to be himself while learning to relate to people from 'all walks of life.'  And he is enjoying school – yeah!"

"The school is wonderful.  It's such a great thing for our son.  We're very happy with the school and its policies – especially the accessibility to job sites and the job training opportunities.  Where else would students get training like this – not at the other schools."

“We are very happy with our son’s overall outcome at this school. His attitude is very uplifting and he is so happy.  Thank you!”

“I am personally thankful that there is a hybrid group of teachers worried about the fate of our children, and that thanks to their arduous job today, we have a sure place for our children, since in this time in which we live the challenge is very hard for them to attend a full, regular school where they are alone and but a number. Here at the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse, they are recognized individuals and valued like persons, and have the opportunity to be listened to when they ask to be helped by their teachers. Also, thanks to all the businesses that have attended to the call of aid that is needed to give our children a sure education of quality, and the expectation that they follow us, thereby helping in the future – so that future generations have the same opportunity that now our children have received."

“I sincerely thank all that are involved in the operation of the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse. Thanks to them, my daughter has had the opportunity and the privilege to be one of the students of this school, and not be alone. Her enrollment has benefited not only our family, but all the families that have children in this school. In some or another way, we will always be grateful to have this school as part of our daily lives.”

“We appreciate the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse so much. We have a large family and I'm thankful there was a smaller high school with more help available.  I'm also very thankful that the children are not allowed to be disrespectful in any way. I would highly recommend this school. It is also not a school just for kids with study problems or social skills crisis, but for kids who are not part of the model to go from book learning only.”

“The Community Schoolhouse helps students feel good about the work they complete and help all students to stay on task.  Thank you to everyone, you've done a great job and have many great improvements since you first opened.”

“Thanks to the Community Schoolhouse, my son is no longer just another face in the crowd. He feels respected and recognized. Labeled as a "goof off" in middle school, he actually achieved "student of the week." This would never have happened in a regular high school. He is more willing to attend school and does and turns in most of his work. The teachers and staff are always willing to help both student and parents. Thank you again, Community Schoolhouse for giving my son a fresh start in life.”

“Thank you for taking the time to find out what the families feel about the school.  The staff really tries to make the students feel important and are willing to work with the students and families to stay on track. Keep up the good work. Thank you for caring.”

“The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse has been an answer to my prayers. My daughter was depressed and did not care if she went to school or not. She has totally turned around and is now an over achiever and wants to be involved in a multiple of projects. She gave 150% to be able to be on the team to go to Japan last year. It was an experience that changed her life and outlook on the world. She wants to make a difference and feels she can if she applies herself. 21st Century Community Schoolhouse gives the kids the opportunity to do so. This school makes a difference to the kids and the community. It makes them feel they are a part of their world.”

“My child was failing and skipping school at their former school now with the help or 21st. My child is wanting to go to school and the attitude and grades are improving.

“As a very concerned mother I truly appreciate each and every team player at the Community Schoolhouse. My daughter would have dropped out in the 9th grade if it wasn't for this school. There is total respect between students and staff. A very safe environment for all. Thank you all so much.”

“The Community Schoolhouse has given my child self-esteem and skills to assist her for the future. Before entry to this school my child had missed almost a year and half of school. She was struggling and I was saddened because I had no clue what to do with her. Now she attends on a regular basis and is given opportunities to achieve her high school diploma. The staff is very supportive and are always going out of their way to make my child feel she belongs. My child has been give a chance to keep on the right path. It has allowed a tiny child to change and grow as an individual.”

“Very caring and personable staff and atmosphere. Thank you.”

“My daughter feels comfortable with the staff and school surroundings. The small class size allows her to participate and feel included in discussions. I look forward to my son also attending the 21st Century Community Schoolhouse in a couple of years. Many thanks to the teachers and staff who work so hard making this small school a large "charge" for the students they serve!

“I am very thankful that the Community Schoolhouse was able to be opened.  I really believe that my daughter is able to learn more than she would from the other schools because teachers are able to spend more time with the students. My daughter used to be really quiet and shy but by going to the Community Schoolhouse she is more outgoing and not afraid to speak up. It's an environment that makes her feel welcome, respected, safe, unlike regular schools where a kids can get lost in the crowd. Here she is more included and you guys make learning fun. Everyone is friendly.

“We have been so fortunate to have our son be a 21st Century Community Schoolhouse student. This year has been a positive, growing experience for him. He had been struggling with his grades when he came and still is but it has been his choice not to succeed. All the help and tools are there for him. The important thing to me is that I know he is learning more and is being respected and encouraged for his personal strengths. The school atmosphere is totally positive. The teachers want to be there and know the students personally. This had been such a great opportunity for him and we are very thankful for him to be here."

“My daughter is a bright and creative person who suffered under the low expectations of the high school she had originally been assigned. The 21st Century Community Schoolhouse represents a valuable effort and possibly a perfect platform with which to verify the impact self-esteem levels have on student performance and achievement. There is no comparison between her follow through at school now, as compared with just six months ago. She is doing work now in every discipline. This is the first time she has ever done that.”

“The Community Schoolhouse truly has been a Godsend to my son. He was having too much of a challenge at the flow schools and it all came out in behavioral problems to the point that the law became involved. The more he had to struggle the worse it got. Now, he can get the help he needs and can show his learning in his own style and this has been very successful for him. I am grateful this school is available to him because now we all have hope for an academic future for him.  His behavior has way improved and now life is good. We have hope!

“I have appreciated an alternative to the traditional high school setting. My child is happier to go to school, more motivated and has more enthusiasm for learning. The method of teaching has created excitement, and understanding in subjects he formally had no interest in. The staff is doing a great job and their efforts are appreciated."

“I would like to say thank you to the teachers and staff at the Community Schoolhouse for the positive, caring attitude. I strongly feel you will help to turn many lives around."

“We can't thank you enough. My daughter loves to go to school. She enjoys her studies and frequently shares her unsolicited views.”
