Directions:
Complete the following tasks and questions based on the Critical Thinking
requirements outlined on the portfolio assignment direction sheet:
- Complete a timeline for the years 1941-1945 based on the Timeline Layout
requirements. (See portfolio assignment directions sheet).
- For each of the following WW II images, paste and format the image and
answer the related question by writing a complete paragraph for each question:

Do you think this would have been an
effective image to recruit soldiers during WW II? Would a similar image
be effective for recruitment for today’s War against Terrorism?

would you react? Explain! Do you think a similar situation could take
place again based on today’s War on Terrorism? How would you
react if a similar order were passed today?
3. For the time period, 1941-1945, select a person
who you think made the most significant contribution to mankind for better or
for worse. Cite three examples to explain your selected person’s
significance. For each example, write a paragraph. Include a picture of this
person.
4. For the time period, 1941-1945, select a scientific discovery or
technological breakthrough that you believe made the most significant impact,
for better or for worse. For your selected scientific/technological event:
- Describe or explain the discovery or breakthrough
- Explain who the scientist(s) involved were
- Why you believe it is the most significant scientific event of the time
- How the event has impacted humanity since
- Include a visual to help explain the discovery and put a title on the
page.

Click on the "Physics" link and read about Nuclear Fission.
In your own words, describe the fission, decay, and nuclear chain
reaction process that is involved in atomic bombs. Create an illustration to
enhance your explanation. Include a title on your paper.
- Read the Dropping the Bomb Case Study in the American
Odyssey text (pp.418-421) After carefully analyzing the case study and
considering what you learned during class lectures and through viewing the
film Hiroshima, answer the Think About It questions, #
1-4 page 421. If you would like to earn honors credit for this section,
complete question # 5 by writing a four-paragraph essay.
Make sure you neatly type and format at least one-paragraph responses for
each question. Include a title on the top of your paper.
- Complete your two creative outcomes for the years 1941-1945 based on the
Creative Outcomes requirements. (See portfolio assignment direction sheet.)
