This year, Science & Society is focusing on the historical and scientific
developments of the 20th century as they relate to the United States
and the world. Beginning with World War II and ending with the turn of the
century, you will explore themes revolving around political, economic, social,
technological, and scientific changes that have shaped our lives.

Goals of the Course
- Describe the interaction of people, culture and ideas
- Describe economic and technologic developments and their affect on
society
- Describe the relationship of people and their geographic environment
- Analyze American politics and political thought
- Describe and analyze the role of the United States in the world
- Describe the influence of science and technology on society,
economics, and culture
- Use the scientific method to pose questions and conduct investigations
- Explore the nature structure, and properties of matter in order to
explain phenomena in the world and the universe

Meet the Team |
|
Molly
is a science teacher at The Community Schoolhouse, with 16 years of
experience teaching biology, chemistry, environmental science and physics at
South Salem High School and Dallas High.
Ms. Kellar loves hiking, cycling, skiing, gardening, traveling, and
spending time with her two sons, Will (14) and Davis (12) and
her dog, a black lab named Sierra.

Andrew has
taught government, history, economics, and geography for 17 years in places
as different as south central Los Angeles, New Zealand, and South Salem
High. He is the social studies teacher at The Community Schoolhouse.
Mr. Goldstein is a dedicated cyclist, a daredevil skier, and loves the
outdoors and traveling. Born in the San Francisco Bay area, he is still a
die-hard 49er fan. He has an 13 year-old daughter named Natalie, and a loyal
dog named Montana. |

Assignments The work you do
in Science & Society will earn you credit in two classes at the same time.
Because of this, completing and turning in your work is essential. All work
produced in this block should represent your best efforts. Neatness,
organization, detail, completeness, creativity, clarity and insight are
important characteristics of all work submitted.
