History and Physics of Baseball Portfolio Timeline Assignment # 5
Goldstein and Kellar 1930-1940

Shadow Ball

"I have no expectation of making a hit every time I come to bat, but what I seek is the highest possible hitting average not only for myself but also for my team."

                                                 --President Franklin Roosevelt, 1932

Directions:

Complete the following task and questions based on the Critical Thinking requirements outlined on the portfolio assignment direction sheet:

  1. Complete a timeline for the years 1930-1940 based on the Timeline Layout requirements. (See portfolio assignment directions sheet).

   2.     Go to: http://www.blackbaseball.com/history/index.htm and  write a three paragraph summary that describes the history of black baseball in the United States.

After reviewing the Blackbaseball.com website, select a famous player and in your won words write a one-page biography about your selected player. In the biography explain how your player rose above discrimination despite the fact that he was banned from playing in the Major Leagues.

3) After reviewing your timeline, select what you consider to be the most important historical event of the decade (1930-1940). Provide at least two reasons for your selection. For each reason, write a one-paragraph explanation. Include a picture that represents your selected event.
