Problems – Using your notes above for
each of the weather factors and the difference they make, answer the following
problems:
If the wind is blowing at 25 miles an hour in the direction of right field
at Yankee Stadium, how much farther than normal would a batter hit a ball if
he hits it to right field?
If the wind is blowing at 15 miles an hour into the batter’s face at
Fenway Park in Boston, how much less distance will the batter get for his
normal hit?
If a storm is moving into Seattle’s Safeco Field and the barometric
pressure drops 2.5 inches, how much will that effect a ball hit by a batter
and in what way (greater or less distance)?
If Coors Field in Denver sits at 5,000 feet elevation, a hit from Barry
Bonds of the San Francisco Giants (whose field sits at sea level) would be
affected in what way and by how much?
A game played in St. Louis’ Busch Stadium in July will usually be played
most likely in 90% humidity. How will that effect the hits the batters make,
and by how much?
Wrigley Field in Chicago in the month of May averages about 55oF
while in July it can easily reach 95oF. How would the same hit by
the same baseball player be different from May to July and by how much?
